My family and I are in the process of moving again. Toward that goal, I’ve done a cursory search of Craigslist to see if we should sell a car, we’re planning to replace with another used, before or after our move. Though there are a lot of factors to take into account, such as the expense of registering it in a new state, it occurred to me that someone may have mapped used car values for an auto website. It seems like a good idea. Does anyone know if one exists?

Thanks.

I know there’s one for auto insurance, which might be helpful:

I’d think used car values would stay pretty similar though.

Depends on the model and features, I’d imagine. For example, AWD and 4WD vehicles might command a premium in northern states.

Or would they be rarer on the used market in drier states and therefore command a premium? *eyebrow waggle*

Realistically, I haven’t seen an appreciable difference in used car/motorcycle prices between NY, LA, and metro Detroit. Your overall cost of living might affect your transportation budget, though.

Depending on the state you are moving to vehicle inspections may add to the registration and transportation costs.

Values vary greatly between parts of the country and demand for a given model/features. Sometimes traveling a bit will net a large discount because the local market doesn’t value a particular car as highly.

Couldn't give any insight unless it is to/from areas I have lived...

In the Deep South, other than in the big cities, pickup trucks will bring outrageous prices. In small towns and rural areas, big old sedans like the Panther may or may not bring higher prices, but they will sell quickly.
